The Shots went into this game looking to build upon last weekends 1-1 away draw to Oxford United. Dean Holdsworth has no selection worries for the visit of Rochdale. The away side main problem was they were without in-form striker, Terry Gornell for the trip to the EBB Stadium.

In the opening minutes it was a closely fought contest but good play from Kieron Cadogan won the Shots a free kick. With the free kick Danny Rose whipped in a cracking cross, which found Dani Lopez at the front post who flicked it past Josh Lillis in the Rochdale goal to secure his side the lead on seven minutes. It was a great start for the Shots.

GOAL: Shots 1-0 Rochdale (Lopez 7 mins)

Rochdale made the perfect response with five minutes later, the visitors applied pressure on the home side and the ball was played back to Ashley Grimes after good build up play. His perfectly placed shot from outside the box ensured his side an equalizer on 12 minutes.

Throughout the opening stages Cadogan was causing all sorts of problems with good play down right hand side and was proving a real handful for the visitors. The away side went close on the counter attack an audacious effort from Andrew Tutte, but it was blazed wide.

In response to this pressure Danny Rose slipped Dani Lopez through. The striker dinked the ball beautifully past his man. He then pulled the ball back to Peter Vincenti. He forced a brilliant save and the crowd couldn’t believe it he hadn’t got his side in front.

Cadogan won his side another free kick after a high foot from the away sides defender. Rose stepped up again to take the cross, but this time it was just too high for any Aldershot players to come and meet it. The ball fell to a great shot on the turn was well blocked and ball cleared and pressure eased. The next chance came when Lopez did a great flick to Danny Hylton, he then nipped the ball past his man before drilling a low driving cross to Peter Vicenti. The midfield fired the ball into the bottom corner in the 39th minute leaving the keeper with no chance.

GOAL: Shots 2-1 Rochdale (Vincenti 39 mins)

After both sides battling for the next goal, the Shots turned up the tempo as a swift triangle between Lopez, Cadogan and Aaron Morris. This resulted in Morris winning a penalty as he was brought down by Rhys Bennett. Danny Rose stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way as he smashed the ball into the right handside of the goal, giving the Shots a two-goal lead.

GOAL: Shots 3-1 Rochdale (Rose (pen) 45 mins)

The half time whistle went after a strong and positive half from the Shots, but for Rochdale this was the third game in a row of conceding three goals in the first half.

HT: Shots 3-1 Rochdale

The second half commenced and it was a very closely fought battle as both sides look to get a foothold in the gam. Lopez turned and played a great through ball to Cadogan. He approached the goal in and was so unlucky to see his shot slammed against the front post.

A cross came for the visitors was directed into the path of Phil Edwards and his powerful header was only denied by an instinctive diving header from captain Ben Herd. The clearance from Herd then set off the counter attack for the Shots. Lopez did a beautiful piece of skill to beat his marker but then he dragged his shot just wide.

After the pressure was building on the home side as the ball was surged forward from the men in yellow. Both Herd and Michael Hector let the ball bounce in the box allowing Dele Adebola to flick ball on for Ashley Grimes. He then ran on to the pass allowing him to smash it into back of the net.

GOAL: Shots 3-2 Rochdale (Grimes 60 mins)

Minutes later Andrew Tutte was slipped through down the right hand side, he attempted to pull it back to Jason Kennedy but he was unable to get a good connection on the ball as the cross ricocheted of the defenders legs.

The away side were beginning to get the better of the second half as they were dominating the midfield. Rochale’s main attacking threat came from long balls coming from deep of the pitch. However their next chance came through good work by Matty Pearson down right hand side. This led to him whipping in a dangerous cross but to the Shots delight the away side were unable to capatalise. Moments later they had another chance when the ball was again played to George Donnelly. He played a fantastic ball to Adebola at the far post but it was just too quick for Adebola to turn in to the net.

The pressure was constant and the ball was crossed into Adebola. He then tried to knock down the ball down to Ashley Grimes but Hector came in and cleared the ball efficiently.

Anthony Tonkin sprang the counter attack for the Shots. The defender played the ball to Cadogan. His precise cross saw Craig Reid head the ball gloriously into the back of the net deep in added time sending the home fans crazy.

GOAL: Shots 4-2 Rochdale (Reid 90 mins)

In the aftermath of the goal celebrations Herd received a straight red card for an off the ball incident. The referee produced a yellow card to Ray Putterill who was also involved in the incident.
