Asa Hall: 2012/2013 Biography & Statistics

Asa is a strong, attacking midfielder, who has occasionally played as a centre back and a striker.

He began his career as a scholar at Birmingham City and, having signed full pro forms in November 2004, made his sole England Under-19 appearance in a European Championships qualifier against Moldova the following March before rounding-off the 2004-05 season by being named as the Blues' 'Young Player of the Year'. Asa played for England's Under-20s against Russia in August 2005 before joining League 2 side Boston United on a three-month loan in January 2006, making his senior debut as a substitute against Macclesfield Town and then his first start against Chester City a week later.

A loan spell at Isthmian League Premier Division side Ashford Town (Kent) in 2006-07 preceded another such spell at Shrewsbury Town in early 2008, during which Asa took just four minutes of his debut against Morecambe to register his first-ever senior goal; he also scored the Shrews' final goal (his third) of 2007-08 in the season-closing draw against Rochdale.

In the summer of 2008, Asa was released by Birmingham and joined Luton Town, for whom he opened his scoring account against Aldershot Town in the mid-September meeting; thereafter, he scored three more times in the next six games and was part of the side that gained a 3-2 extra time win over Scunthorpe United at Wembley to win that season's Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

He missed just four league games in 2008-09 and scored a career-best 11 goals, but the season ended in heartache as the Hatters were relegated out of the Football League by virtue of a rock-bottom finish, a fate all-but sealed at the start of the campaign by the 30-point deduction they were handed for financial irregularities.

To his credit, he remained at Luton and scored five times in 2009-10 as the club tried to make an immediate return to the Football League. They eventually finished as runners-up to Stevenage Borough before losing to York City on aggregate in the play-off semi-final, the second leg of which was marred by crowd trouble at Kenilworth Road. Shortly after the aforementioned disappointment, Asa joined newly-promoted Oxford United and played in 41 of their League 2 games in 2010-11, scoring four times and followed that up by netting another seven goals in 2011-12 as the play-offs were missed by two places and four points.

However, Asa did get to play in League 1 by virtue of becoming Shrewsbury Town's first summer signing following their promotion and made 18 appearances in all competitions (scoring three times) before joining Aldershot Town on loan until the end of the season on the final day of the January 2013 transfer window.
