Ollie Lancashire: 2012/2013 Biography & Statistics

Ollie is a centre back, who is strong in the tackle, capable of good distribution when he has the ball at his feet and is a menace at set pieces.

He played schoolboy football at Aldershot Town and was a member of Crystal Palace's youth team before signing on as a scholar with Southampton. He captained the club's Under-18 side, signed full pro forms in July 2006 and made two substitute appearances for England Under-19s across February and March 2007 before reportedly being the subject of interest from Liverpool and Manchester City in January 2008.

Solid performances in the academy and reserve sides plus injuries to Wayne Thomas and Michael Svensson saw Ollie make his senior debut in a Championship game at Queen's Park Rangers in mid-September 2008. Unfortunately, he lasted just half-an-hour before being sent off; five games and five weeks later, he suffered the same fate late on at Sheffield United. A combination of niggling injuries and the need for experience at the back in the face of a relegation fight restricted Ollie to a dozen appearances in all competitions in 2008-09 as the Saints dropped out of the Championship.

In October 2009, he was loaned to Grimsby Town and it didn't take long for bad luck to strike again: he was dismissed in the second half of his second appearance against Accrington Stanley and then scored an own goal in his first game back after suspension against Leeds United in a Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie. However, none of that should not detract from the fact that Ollie stood out in a poor side. He formed a solid partnership with Rob Atkinson, garnering rave reviews in several of the 26 appearances he made during two loan spells with the Mariners, but couldn't prevent them from dropping out of the Football League at the season's end.

He was released by Southampton that summer and joined Walsall, but was soon involved in yet another battle against relegation, with the Saddlers' poor run of form going into 2011 seeing boss Chris Hutchings sacked and replaced by Dean Smith. Soon after that appointment, Ollie put in a solid performance as the Saddlers thumped Bristol Rovers 6-1 to record their best Football League result in 25 years. They followed that up a month later by beating promotion-chasing Southampton and their 2010-11 season eventually ended with relegation from League 1 being avoided by one point and one place. The following season was a virtual déjà vu, with the Saddlers avoiding relegation this time by seven points and two places.

Having made 58 appearances in all competitions for the Saddlers, Ollie was released in the summer of 2012 and made a return to Aldershot, but this time as a senior player.
