Danny Rose: 2012/2013 Biography & Statistics

Danny is a left-footed midfielder, who began his career as a scholar at Manchester United, where he signed full pro forms in July 2006.

Six months later, he was loaned to Conference National side Oxford United for the remainder of the 2006-07 season, making the first of his 24 appearances against Morecambe in the first week of the new year and netting his first goal against Southport exactly two months later. Although deemed good enough to captain the reserves at Old Trafford, Danny was released in the summer of 2007 without having broken into the first team and then spent the 2007-08 campaign back at Oxford on a month-to-month contract.

In July 2008, he signed for Newport County and played in all-but-one of the club's 49 games in all competitions in 2008-09, scoring 11 times. The following season Danny made another 44 appearances and contributed 8 goals to Dean Holdsworth's men winning the Conference South title; he also gained some personal glory by being named in the 'Conference South Team of the Year'. The Exiles started the 2010-11 Conference Premier campaign well and Danny's early season performances earned him a debut for England 'C' from the bench in a friendly against Wales in the September. He was the mainstay of the Newport side that were in and around the promotion places for the majority of the season and was the only player to start every league game and, indeed, each of the club's 50 games in all competitions. Having reportedly garnered interest from Milton Keynes Dons, Leyton Orient and Huddersfield Town, Danny ended the campaign having scored six goals as the club eventually finished ninth.

Having collected that season's 'Conference Premier Young Player of the Year' award, he made his first start for England 'C' in the International Challenge Trophy final defeat by Portugal in mid-May before his 10 goals in the opening 17 games of the 2011-12 season earned him a trial at Championship side Crystal Palace in the October.

Danny made his last appearance for Newport against Fleetwood Town midway through the December before, despite being a reported target for both Palace and (Dean Holdsworth's) Aldershot Town, an undisclosed fee took him (ironically) to Fleetwood two weeks later. He was given the captain's armband for his fourth and final international against Italy at the end of February and went on to make 10 appearances for the Trawlermen as they secured the Conference Premier title; the 11 goals that he had bagged before arriving at Highbury afforded him the accolade of Newport's leading league scorer for 2011-12.

Danny turned down a move to Wrexham in the summer of 2012 but, oddly, wasn't part of the matchday squad at Fleetwood in the early stages of the 2012-13 campaign, prompting him to link up again with his ex-Newport boss Dean Holdsworth at Aldershot Town, albeit on a three-month loan.
