Stuart Cash to be club guest for Chesterfield game

Popular former Aldershot Town player and assistant manager Stuart Cash will be warmly welcomed back to the EBB Stadium on Tuesday night, when he attends the game against one of his former clubs Chesterfield as the club's official guest of honour.

Stuart is currently assistant manager of Blue Square Southern Division leaders AFC Wimbledon, where he has teamed up again with former Aldershot Town manager Terry Brown, now in charge at Kingsmeadow. The Dons claimed top spot by virtue of a 3-1 win over Chelmsford City on Saturday.

Stuart Cash was brought to Aldershot Town as his first signing by George Borg in September 1997 and was named as Borg's assistant while also registered as a player. He quickly endeared himself to The Shots faithful with his no-nonsense defending and on-pitch leadership. In total Stuart made 37 starts for The Shots, scoring three goals.

Stuart Cash was born in Tipton, West Midlands in September 1964 and began his football career as a youth with Wolverhampton Wanderers. He then played for several non-league sides in the West Midlands area before signing for Nottingham Forest in 1989. He had loan spells with Rotherham United, Brentford, Wycombe Wanderers and Shrewsbury Town before a permanent move to Tuesday night's opponents Chesterfield in August 1992. Two years later he was on the move again, back to Wycombe but his spell at Adams Park was a short one, he signed for Stevenage Borough just two months later in October 1994.

Spells at several top level non-league sides followed before Stuart arrived at Aldershot Town.

Stuart remained with the club until November 2004 when he was appointed as manager of St Albans City, but his stay at Clarence Park lasted only eight days, and two matches when he resigned due to his non-football related work commitments.

Stuart returned to football in June 2005 when he was appointed as assistant manager at Lewes, and then teamed up with his former Shots boss Terry Brown at AFC Wimbledon in May 2007.

While with Aldershot Stuart won the Isthmian League Division One Championship in 1998, Isthmian League Premier Division Championship in 2003, Nationwide Conference Play-Off finalists in 2004, and five Cup final victories.

Stuart rightly takes his place in the history of Aldershot Town FC as someone who has contributed a massive amount to the club's success.

He will be introduced to supporters on the pitch during half-time on Tuesday night.
