We are sorry to learn of the passing of David O'Connell at the age of 73. David was a former Chairman of Aldershot Football Club during the 1984/85 season. He also chaired the public supporters meetings that were held during the final months of the club in 1992 as attempts were made to save the club.

David was also involved in the formation of Aldershot Town Football Club where he provided extensive legal support and guidance. He was the clubs first Honorary Legal Advisor; a role that he fulfilled for 10 years.

A former policeman stationed at Godalming David left the force to study law. He became a qualified solicitor joining Marshalls in Godalming. He eventually became a senior partner.

Upon retirement he moved to France but returned to the United Kingdom moving to Cornwall. He suffered a brain hemorrhage three years ago but made a recovery. However David was taken ill shortly before Christmas and sadly passed away on Wednesday after spells in hospital in Salisbury and Southampton.

The funeral will be on Tuesday 5th February at 1.30pm. It will be held at St Osmunds Church, 95 Exeter Street, Salisbury, WIltshire SP1 2SF.

There will be a full tribute to David in the next home programme.

Our thoughts are with the family of David at this difficult time.
